About Us

Excalibur Pathology is owned and operated by Paula Pierce, HTL(ASCP)HT.

Paula is a graduate of the first class of the Histotechnology Technician Program at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
After graduating and obtaining her HT registry in 1979, she began working at the Eye Pathology Laboratory in Oklahoma City. As the sole
technician, she learned the art and science of preparing whole eye diagnostic slides from human
clinical and animal research ophthalmic tissue specimens.

The early 80’s saw the introduction of immunohistochemistry stains being used to assist in the diagnosis of diseases in the clinical setting
and Paula performed her first immuno on an unpigmented intraocular tumor which stained
positive for prostate specific antigen and thus was a metastasis of the patient’s prostate cancer.

While raising her family and continuing her education, Paula began working at Integris Baptist
Medical Center in Oklahoma City in 1992 as assistant special stains technician. A facility
processing 25,000 cases per year and a leader in heart and liver transplantation, Baptist held a
wealth of information to learn. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science and
Mathematics from Thomas Edison State College, the HTL registry, and was promoted to lead
technician.

In 1998, she returned to the Eye Pathology Laboratory as the pathology laboratory manager.

Now, Paula offers her expertise in processing your tissue specimens at Excalibur Pathology.

Paula is a moderator in the forum at IHC World.
